About Gareth

GarethFunkSavage is a self-taught South African artist with a flair for the hyper-realistic. His influences are as broad as his travels and include everything from chrome skull reflections on the streets of Paris, to the local faces of Long Street in Cape Town.

In addition to his time behind the easel, he has filled the role of creative director for the internationally acclaimed Kilifi New Year’s Eve festival in Kenya and he has spent many seasons decorating the walls of Amsterdam and Paris’ finest hostels with larger-than-life murals. Currently living in London, he is focusing on original paintings combining hyper-realistic detail with a bit of funk.

His art influences are Caravaggio and Jean Michel Basquiat. He loves realism and playing with different textures, colour, form and light all the while developing his craft along the way.

He also loves unicorns.
